Fixing Technical Debt & Looking Towards the Future
Working on weBoost was both daunting and exciting. Many areas needed improvement, and moving the site and its integrations required a new vision for the company. The rebuild moved the codebase into version control, improved the development workflow, performance, and SEO, and introduced new features and design updates.
The old site had no version control or staging environment and relied on an outdated Shopify theme. The new workflow added local development, staged review, and automatic deployment, improving communication and reducing the risk of downtime.
The previous experience split content and commerce between WordPress and Shopify subdomains. The rebuilt React and Node site used WordPress as a headless content source and Shopify APIs for cart and checkout. Next.js server rendering, image optimization, critical CSS, and Google Tag Manager helped reduce page weight and improve SEO.
